University of New South Wales

Would you like to be involved in O&M training?

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is running a Graduate Diploma in O&M through the School of Optometry and Vision Science. Coursework is done online, but students require 80 hours under blindfold in addition to learning to teach O&M skills.

The practical training is currently a mix of individual Technique Teachers (TT) working with students locally, and intensive training blocks based on TT availability and student location.

We are planning a two-week Intensive for all students in Sydney from Monday June 27th to Friday July 8th, 2022, and we still require several TT’s to give us a good Student/Teacher ratio. Next year we are hoping to provide most of the practical training in a series of Intensives, supplemented by individual TT work where this is not practical.

We are looking to build up a list of O&M’s (preferably with COMS) to help us in this undertaking moving forward, so even if you are unavailable for the coming Intensive, we would love to hear from you so that we can build up a list of potential Providers. Please email michael.gleeson@unsw.edu.au or matthew.g.walker@unsw.edu.au to register interest or for more information. This is a chance to support the O&M Profession and to gain points for COMS reaccreditation.
